Livi Grace was Diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (O.I.)
For most people, being able to get up and walk every day is second nature. But for this 4-year-old, it was something she'd have to work toward. Within 90 minutes of being born, Livi Grace was diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (O.I.), also known as brittle bone disease. While there is no known cure, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jill Flanagan laid out a road map with the lofty goal of Livi Grace being able to walk one day.
Livi Grace's treatments focused on minimizing pain and maximizing function, like strengthening her bones with medicine her parents called "bone juice." Whether it was one of the many surgeries on her legs or visits to the infusion center, Livi Grace and her family have spent many days and nights at Children's. According to her parents, it has all been worth it because in the past few weeks she began walking—that deserves a smile and a big thumbs up!
